Is it bad for the drill press if you use it push out pins when test fitting on bolsters? The pin was tight and couldn't be pulled out easily by hand, so I just took a 1/8" bit and pushed on it and slid it out with my drill press. Can this damage the chuck jaws or anything? Also, I read somewhere (I think RW Clark posted it) about doing basketweave on leather by chucking a basketweave stamp into a drill press and stamping like that. How much force can you put on your drill press?

Also, I have my drill press set up a couple feet away from my grinder/buffer. Will the dust from those machines damage my DP motor? Is it a worthwhile practice to cover the drill press with a garbage bag when grinding and buffing?

Thanks

With reasonable pressure it won't hurt at all. Straight DOWN pressure is what they were designed for. What hurts them more than anything is sideways pressure like milling.

Dust is not good for any open motor. I cover almost everything because of the size of the shop. Doesn't hurt to blow them out once in a while also.
