OK. I'm in the market for a new drill press. I've read lots of opinions on grinders, so now I'll ask: What is the best bench model drill press to get for knife making and why? I want a new one but I want to learn from the mistakes of others.

This way, I can save myself the hassle and in the long run, save some cash. Thanks for the help.

For small stuff the littel 59.00 ones work ok . I get them and indicate the table then pin it so it dont move. Shim the pedestal to get the front to back and the table for the side to side . Drill a pin hole in the flange and pin it.

The spindles are ok not great but you can afford many of them and set them up for different operations and save much time.

I put a 1" indicator set up on the up and down to adust for the depth im going. I use the 20.00 ones for this purpose . I make a litte
do hicky that attaches to the spindle for the indicator point to ride up and down on.

Tight spindles are hard to come by from less than 300 buck or so. I would look for a used (NAME BRAND) at a machine dealer if you want mill like precision. The older ones (some of them) are great. Most of the newer types are not that great . So I just dont spend the money on one that is no better than the next at 100 bucks more.
