so are they worth it?
if so what one should i look for? drill bits are piling up like spent belts in my shop, wish i could use em:D

I have allwase resharpend by hand, a old man once took the time to show me how. just use a fine belt and give it a try, just look at the shape and geometrey of the bit and try and keep it the same. also make shure you keep the center point of the bit centered or youll have problms.

After much discussion on another formum I bit the bullet and bought a Drill Dr bit sharpener. I'd tried sharpening by hand and nerver really got it right but the Drill Dr knocked out the first bit I tried in about a minute and it was perfect. I went with the 750Z which has a capacity of up to 3/4"

I use to sharpen by hand, but found a Drill Doctor 750Z on sale and it's a great machine. I haven't had any problems with it.

same here, long before starting in knifemaking, i did metal fab, and love my drill dr. pays for itself very quickly

The Drill Dr. is a good tool.Just remember that it won't do any good on a drill bit that was ruined by getting it too hot in drilling hard steel.

I've had one for years and feel it's paid for it's self several times over. I tried sharpening by hand and couldn't do it as good as the Dr. can...

I've had an old B & D sharpener since the late seventies. Replaced the stone twice and it's still kicking and saving me money. I used to sharpen by hand but I don't think I remember how. Slick little tool woth its weight in damascus.

gee, i never knew everyone liked them so much, i bumble along trying to sharpen by hand but never seem to get it right, maybe i should get a sharpener, although 120 seems a bit steep, is there anything around the 30 buck mark?

I have a model 500 and love it. It's the same machine as the 750, but will only take drills up to .500. The only difference is the drill collet. I got it for $59.95 as a refurb on Amazon. It looke like brand new, came with a full warranty and all accessories.

Good stuff!

Get a Drill Doctor. I sharpened by hand for 30 years and could probably do it with the best of them. However, the DD really simplifies the process and gets it exactly right every time. It is particularly nice for small and carbide bits. I do not recall the .750 model being available when I got my 500. Is that a fairly recent model? I got mine from MSC a few years back. They had the best price at the time.
