"Drilled" "19th cent." Khuk - but why?

EBay has something (at a too high reserve) that could be a 19th century. 2563489007. It seems to have a good sized (1/4" or more) hole drilled in the center of the blade towards the tip. It almost looks like a hole drilled so the Khuk could be hung on a nail. Any ideas out there why someone would drill such a hole?

for a khuk. but I have seen holes drilled in other types of knives to aid in a better balance.
