Drilling a hole into a knife

I am trying to drill a hole into one of my 1095 blades with my drill press and hand drill but the bit just will not catch. I am on the lowest speed on my drill press and I just cannot drill into this blade. Any suggestions, I have tried 3 different types of bits but nothing is working?

I'd use a Relton Groo-V Part Number grt-3-3 bit. Pick them up at the tool supply store these are for hard metal, Granite, Tile, Marble. Used to predrill holes in porcelain tile for safety grab bars. If your steel is hardened use a little cutting oil.

when you are drilling use the oil plus go slow. not on high speed because all you will do is burn up the drill bit.

If the blade steel is hardened, it will be a significant challenge to get a hole cut without a mill. Your best bet is a HiRoc solid-carbide bit, low speed, and plenty of coolant.

Ditto on the HiRoc bit and the slowest speed you have. It takes a lot of downward force to initiate the cut. Also, be very careful as you break through the far side. Best is to back the blade with thick aluminum or mild steel to prevent sudden break-through and exit damage.

you really need to go very slow and do not spare the lube. I was drilling red iron and I drilled just like I told you to do and did not break one drill bit. another person tried to go fast and he started breaking $80.00 drill bits.

I drilled and tapped the hardened liners in my kershaw junkyard dog (to change to tip up carry) and I used a hand drill and it may help to start small and make the hole larger.
