Drilling a Lanyard Hole in a Traditional?

Has anyone done it? I'm looking for advice.

I'm eyeballing a Tidioute #15 Huckleberry. I want to drill a hole for a lanyard. I'm kind of a lanyard guy. It's kind of pricey so I want any info I can get before I cut on it.

Can I just drill a hole in the bottle or will that screw up the spring back? Another idea is to drill out the bottom pin and add a bushing.

Thanks in advance.

Ya know bud, a long time ago, they used to burn heretics at the stake!
:D

all kidding aside, the only traditional knives I've ever seen with a lanyard, had a bail to attach them. Boy scout knives, a few others, but pretty rare.

That's a pretty chancy proposition. If I recall correctly the spring is actually notched at the butt to rest against the butt pin, so to add a ferrule you'd have to substantially increase the size of the spring notch and the pin hole itself since the pins are likely only around .085. Might even wind up having the blade slap the ferrule if there's less clearance in the knife.

You may be modifying a traditional knife, but you are still modifying it. Off to the Maintenance and Tinkering Forum we go...

I would really like to know about this too. I've been searching for a GEC 23 with 2 blades and a lanyard hole, but I'm starting to think such an animal has never existed.

Has anyone done this modification to a traditional?

Are there any traditional "modders" that would do this type of work?

I have a beater in bound that will be the guinea pig. I'll let you know how it goes. :D
