Drilling a lanyard hole on a Buck 112.

I've a Buck 112, and would like to dedicate it to pocket carry, but the knife likes to bury itself in my pocket. Is there a spot I can safely drill a lanyard hole? I've a drill press, so a straight hole is no problem.

personally, I'd never drill a #112 - it is perfect in that leather pouch but too heavy and thick for a pocket IMO - better pick up a Sypderco delica or some such model/make with a pocket clip and pre-exsisting hole!
Peace

Just make sure you drill between the bolster pins and drill low enough so as not to interfer with the lock release mechanism.

The reason I drilled the hole in mine was that, when in the Navy, I sometimes worked over the side performing antenna maintenance and also on the mast doing the same so I slipped a small piece of line through the hole to make a lanyard or writs strap. Funny thing was, once I did that I never fumbled or dropped the knife.

those old buck brass bolster folders really balanced fairly well in hand.
but nothing beats having those finger groove models which gave an absolutely secured grip.

i like the idea of a lanyard hole, but not sure how it helps with edc?

p.s. shouldn't this be moved to the buck forum or maintenance forum?

Can't answer for others, but I pocket carry all folders and multitools by belt hanger, suspended along the back seams of my front pockets. That way they stay pretty much in place, out of the way of whatever else is in the pockets, less likely to get clogged with lint and with felt weight next to nothing, even with larger ones. My 110 usually rides in a sheath on my belt, although sometimes I pocket it wedged upright against my wallet. Frankly, I never thought about drilling a lanyard hole, but now this thread has got me thinking...

BTW, if this thread had been in either the Buck or Maintenance forums, I might have missed it. :)

In my case, it's because the 112 likes to bury itself in my pocket when I'm working, and a belt sheath is impractical when wearing a heavy coat. A leather lanyard/fob is perfect for retrieval.
