Hi everyone so I am currently trying to drill through a mora blank to make a hole in the tang with not much success...

I am using a HSS cobalt twist drill bit but it seems just to spin on the spot without much result...

The type of stainless steel is apparently Sandvik 12C27 or 14C28N but what would be the best way for me to drill holes in them?

Thank you very much for your help. :)

There are a few ways to go about it. One way is to use a carbide bit...they're harder to find than regular bits and slightly pricey. There is also the method of using a carbide tipped masonry drill bit, like you would use for concrete, just make sure it's carbide tipped. The trick is to drill fast and let it get hot, don't use cutting fluid, let the bit burn thru as it's drilling into the tang.

Hi thanks for the reply :)

What RPM would you recommend for a 3mm (1/8 inch) bit (in the case of carbide)?

Thanks for your help :)

The other way if you can, is heat to orange the tang keeping the heat away from the blade and then inserting the blade in ashes or any thermal isolation powder to let it cool very slowly.

Thanks again for the reply I think the general idea is to heat it so I'll go ahead and try that :)
