I have a knife handle project that I am interested in doing. Before I spend the money I need some advice. This project will involve drilling one 5/16" hole through a heat treated 3/16"-1/4" BG-42 knife handle. Can this be done? If so, what type of drill bit(s) will I need? All comments welcome.

Thanks.

With that big a hole you could do it with a Dremel tool and abrasive bits.If you had a source of EDM[electro-discharge machining] it would be easy [temper after].The other possibility would be carbide drills but I've never drilled something that hard.

Use a carbide drill. It should make the hole with no problem.
