Drilling two holes in a Strider...

Does anyone here know someone that could drill the 2 holes in a strider to allow the clip to be move to a tip up, lefty carry position? If I could find someone that could do the mod, I would go ahead and pick one up. I believe the lower of the 2 holes has to be threaded while the top one does not...

Not sure if you are aware of how Strider's warranty works but just in case. Drilling holes to move the clip would completely void the warranty of the knife. Strider states that the knife has to leave them the exact way it did originally when it was new unless they made the modification. Moving the clip would fall under their no pimping policy.

Have you considered one of the many holsters people have made?

Would rather not add anything else to the belt. I emailed and called Strider a couple weeks ago to see if they would make the changes, or allow me to order a new knife from them with the mod, but they haven't bothered to get back to me...

I knew this video would come in handy. Just made it today. :)

As for the clip, unless they give you their blessing, don't do it. Voids the warranty.

Thanks man! Hopefully you won't need it, but it happens. One thing I wish they did was the "spa" treatment like CRK. I'd love to be able to send a scratched and beaten SMF and have it returned all fresh and new. I'd pay 30 or 40 bucks for that in a heart beat, but I think it's just wishful thinking.

Yep, it speaks volumes to their attitude towards customers, complete lack of communication, as well as the "unknown" preference hoops they would prefer you to jump through "otherwise your knife might be sitting there for a long time before they work on it!" :grumpy:

Thnaks for the heads up man!

They simply don't have the resources to put someone beside a phone all day. You send the knife in and it will come back fixed. Plain and simple customer service.

They are a small company and make a lot of knives. They don't sit on shelves either. They sell to military at huge discounts. They've been known to give knives away.

You'll never have to worry about Strider telling you they are not going to fix a blade play issue because it is within spec, or that you flicking it voided your warranty. This says a lot about a company.

I've never had a knife company tell me either of those things.

As a customer paying over $500 you shouldn't have to jump through hoops, they should be jumping through them for you.

You're spot on Robert.B. I've never encountered a company who behaves in such a cavalier manner towards it's customer base as Strider (yet). Just send the knife in and pray they fix it right? Don't call? Don't email? Can't even afford a receptionist at minimum wage? We've seen the price tags on these knives and how many guys own them. Geesh!

I feel the same way about Hinderer. I love his stuff, talked with him for a long while at blade, but his attitude that mere peon civilians can't buy from him is ridiculous. I shouldn't have to pay 700 dollars for a 350 dollar XM-18. To me, that is way more ridiculous than Strider's business practices.

That does suck! :grumpy: Rather than think of myself as a peon, I try to see that he can't make all of the knives he does and service the public - so LEO, Military and First Responders have priority.

The Hinderer price tag isn't set by him on the secondary market, but I'm sure you know that. Rick's knives are either 100% custom or real close to full on customs.

It is what it is? Striders are great knives IMHO but I also think they're a tad over-priced. Maybe by $100 per knife.
