I'm having trouble with a new drill press. As tight as I can get it, the belt slips on the lower RPM used for hole saws. The new belts that came with it seem kind of waxy. Any suggestions?

Try belt dressing in a can, maybe clean the belt and pulley first

Have a look under the cover, is the belt slipping, or is the spindle pulley slipping ?

I have one drill press fool me.

It turns out the nut holding the pulley on needed tightening.
It's a left hand nut.

I just had the same issue with the pulley nut coming loose on a floor model drill press I bought a few months ago. I was drilling 1/2" holes through about a dozen 2" pipes. I drilled every pipe with about 3 different size bits just fine, but as soon as I started in with the 1/2" bit it would slip. I thought it was the belt at first too. Ended up the pulley nut was only finger tight.

It's an 8" hole saw at 350RPM cutting into insulating firebrick. The holesaw is rubbing on the bricks. I need to make the kerf thicker on the holesaw.

Nah, I'm asking the wrong question. I'll close this thread.
