So, last night a black escalade drove by and shot my house. They hit my dog, luckily, he's a tuff pup and he is fine, the bullet went straight through. I no longer live with my parents, so my mom was there by herself. The police pulled over the vehicle that matches the description, and it was full of some wanna be gangster kids. They shined there flashlights in it and decided they didnt have a gun and let them go. I almist went to jail for hitting a police officer, ha. They are the most useless pieces of crap I have ever experienced. The police is ridiculous. I asked if they were going to take evidence pictures, and they said, "There is no point, we wont catch them" ...... I have never been so mad..

Wow, that sucks.
time to move.
and/or write the mayor.

Hey wrk, sorry to hear that about your dog, and your experience with the cops. The cops did all they can do really. Pictures prove only that an event happened, they don't prove the kids in the Escalade did the shooting. Also, full on CSI: ballistics, trajectory, evidence recovery, would only solidify the event happened, and it would be a Wonderful Wizard of Oz miracle to connect all that to a group of wanna bes in a "similar looking" vehicle without a gun. Short of finding the gun (in the vehicle or on one of the kids), the ammo, and the recently fired pristine bullet that penetrated your pup to match it to the gun would be the only thing that would prove those particular kids did the shooting. And, like the cops said, there is no point. Hate to say this, but a dog's life is not the same as a human's life, the kids were probabaly underage and so the cops won't waste the time....unless they had the gun, ya know.

If you look at it from a different perspective though, at least the cops did a little something. They seemed quick to respond, and they followed up (even though it pissed you off). In a bigger city/metropolis you would be extremely lucky to get a timely response....for a shot dog. They also found who YOU or YOUR MOM thought might have done it, but there was no probable cause, and other than: circumstance, proximity and similarity, unfortunately that's, I'm sorry to say, not enough Brother.

And, whether you think so or not, the cops are really on your side, and the cops probably know in their gut that those kids shot your pup, and they want to hook those kids up too, believe me they do, but they can't do anything without the gun, so......anyway

Again, sorry this happened, have some faith man, karma is a bitch and it will catch up them....eventually.

Hope the pup recovers well.

Thanks man.. Guess that helps a little. It wasnt just that, I mean, I realize they cant i.vestigate to much with something like this, but its how they treated us. That was the big deal to me. And no, not Albq, I am in Farmingto /bloomfield

Is it possible that the police essentially dismissed the whole event because you have a history with them???

Ah, I see. Yeah, I can understand how a dismissive attitude can get people fired up. That's not the right way to handle anyone.

Not accusing the OP of anything, but I have read and been told that true random crimes are extremely, EXTREMELY rare. Except for the occasional beatdown in various inner cities, like Baltimore, for example. AGAIN, NOT saying that the OP had done anything wrong, here or in the past.

Also, I'm not familiar with the NM environment. That is about as far from Maryland as you can get, in a lot of ways. So, the whole random thing could be a different story there...

Bottom line, as someone said, a dog's life is completely different from a human life. And I say that as a guy that would JUST ABOUT lay down his life for his dog. But that is just my life vs. my dog's. Not someone else's life.

I know what I'd be doing. And it would involve waiting for the next time this happens, well prepared with a nice reception for the perps.

It may have been something related to a gang initiation to prove their loyalty. Those kind of people are worthless and really have no business living.

True. In which case I fall back to....

Which probably would involve ... to the best of my ability ... peace through superior firepower.

Hey man, sorry to read about this cr@p. Your dog's life is more worthy than those losers.

No, I dont have a history with the police, my mom doesnt either. She lives by herself in a bad neighborhood, and it just got me fired up that the Police just left her wondering what to do about it. To me thats ridiculous. And yeah, I will have an answer next time, haha.

Next time don't call them. I am sure your attitude towards them does not promote a desire to help. There are plenty of people out there that need help and are appreciative of their efforts to keep them busy. BTW being restricted to only shining lights in cars is just as frustrating for them as it is for you but that's the price of working with in people's constitutional rights. It's sounds to me that they identified the suspects, will complete the investigation, and possibly follow up with warrants and/ or search warrants. Time is on their side and thankfully the statute of limitations for a felony is longer than the night in question. These things are rarely random. You should be angry at the suspects and not those trying to help.

Thats terrible man sorry to hear it. Hate to hear about animals suffering because of stupid people. Hope he recovers fine, and be safe.
