Can the Gunting drone be ordered with BLACK grips? If carrying the Drone, the orange sticks out a bit:)

To my under standing, the drone is available only with red scales (to identify it as a training tool). However, Bram and Spyderco will be introducing the Crimpt (sp?). This will be with blue scales, sharper horns and ramp (like the live blade)and the training blade. The Rekat escalator (proto-Gunting) had a drone/trainer in black; however, it was far inferior to the current Gunting model. J.E., get a Skunkworks pocket sheath. It eliminates any of the "sticking out."

Don't expect to ever see a black drone, just as you will never see a black ASP training gun. That is the reason it is red, so every one can see that it is a training tool. This also keeps us as practitioners from making a mistake about which blade we are using (is it live, or is it memorex?) I have already seen one nasty cut from that kind of confusion.

On the other hand many people like you do carry a blunt blade for defense purposes. You can look forward to, as Paul pointed out, the CRMIPT with blue scales. This will be an LEO tool and also used by people like yourself who see the potential of the Gunting as an impact weapon. Yes, blue sheaths will be available too!

When I went to their webpage, I couldn't find a Gunting sheath. Did I just miss it?

Also - how are the G-10s held on? Just the screws, or glued, too? Can I order the blacks myself, and simply replace the orange?

TIA

j.e. Moore,

Welcome to the forums. The sheath has to be ordered separately from Skunkworks. There are at least two designs for sale. One for inside the pocket carry (concealed) and one for carrying on the belt.

Tried getting scales for my Gunting (wanted to remove the clip) but the nice people at Spyderco couldn´t help me with that. So I don´t think that you will be able to get a couple of extra scales. It doesn´t hurt contacting them (and if you get hold of a scale without the clip and screwholes I´ll buy it from you in a heartbeat).

JE Moore,

Just drop an email requesting some information about the sheath. Make sure to ask about costs and delivery time.

This was the advice given to me so I currently have one concealable pocket sheath on order with Skunkworks. Should arrive (hopefully!) in a couple of weeks.

Also do a search in this forum as there is a picture of the concealable pocket sheath.

Good luck!

Frank at Skunkworks will build almost anything you want. There are also shoulder rigs for the "G" as well as SOB belt rigs. If you want something original, he can do that too. A true custom shop.

Just drop him a line at SKUCONSOL@aol.com

Tell him Steve sent ya. He'll take care of you.

DRONES are red for a reason..to make sure no one grabs the wrong tool..
no you can't have scales..PERIOD...
No one of us will contribute to changing a safety factor..
I guess you have to make your own scales...
I assume you won't like the CRMIPT's bright blue scales either..
and no..you can't get seperate scales from us for that either..
I guess you have to buy it and modify it on your own..
OK???

Just as Glocks are color coded to insure safety ..so are GUNTINGs..with universal colors..
Just as real time trainers are coded so are all SPYDERCO Drones..
Red means its safe..

THe USBP wears RED Drones on their GREEN uniforms..hmm it really doesn't stand out to much there ..

I carry a Red Drone every day..yup its my EDC.
