Hello,

i wanted to share a project with you, which i am carrying out at the moment.

Together with the members of the gut-rasiert forum, a german forum about wet shaving, i am planing a design for a wedge 8/8 straight razor blade, which i will let drop-forge for me, by a big drop forge in Solingen germany.

Following i will show you the previous steps, beginning with one of my blades that i proposed as design and going to the final shape.

This was the proposed Blade:

And this the first sketch:

With handle:

Because i got much feedback to make a 8/8 i changed the shape once more:

Because many people wanted to do a passaround wiht a prototype of the future Razor i started to build it. Here is the shape:

With a handle made of buffalo Horn:

And with another handle made of cocobolo. This time the curves of the handle do match those of the blade.

I dont wanted to make a normal cotter between the scales so i tried something different:

The finished prototype. Many people asked me for a rough beltgrinder finish because they liked the archaic look. So i finished the Blade with a 400 grit. To prevent the future Blades from rust i will let them coat with DLC.

Any questions or suggestions are welcome.

(i hope my english is reasonably understandable)

Kind regards,
Ulrik

The wedge modification (using that collar) is fantastic IMHO! A subtle yet very unique change. Can you provide some specs on that collar?

BTW, that is a beautiful razor indeed!

Thank you for your reply.

The collar is made of a brass rod with 10mm in diameter. I turned it to an hourglass shape and then polished it.

best regards,
Ulrik
