Drop-in DA module for Sifu

This may be a stupid question, but what keeps the blade closed? Is it just tension? Every auto I have ever seen has some sort of positive lock, either a plunge lock on a single action or a button on a DA to keep the leaf spring cocked. I would buy a SIFU just to convert it if I knew that it would not put me in the hospital from a accidental firing.

The first version has a seperate latch on the spine the 2nd version in the pics don't have the latch permentantly installed yet 'cause I'm experimenting w/using the existing rolling lock latch. If the rolling lock latch spring is replaced w/a spring w/slightly bigger spring constant (ie strength), it also keeps the rolling lock from moving sufficiently unless the blade is either thumbed open or the latch is thumbed backwards. When the latch is thumbed back it opens the blade automatically however one of the problems is that you have to hold the latch back until the blade is almost in the locked position and then let it go. Otherwise w/the increased latch spring it puts too much drag on the blade. The first version w/entirely seperate latch is of course more reliable, safer and easier to do but not as potentially refined or interesting.

wanting to fire by itself is a pretty big bug when you are talking about a SIFU...but nontheless, it looks very promising.

The self firing bug is easy to fix if your willing to settle on a seperate latch. The biggest problem is keeping the thing drop-inable w/out permanently altering the actual Sifu.

I love innovation like this, Booshank. Like Benchnut, I haven't really considered buying a SIFU in the past. But if a modification like this were to become possible, I might have to seriously reconsider. Good luck and keep up the good work.

very nice! My only question is: Is the stop tough enough to take the extra impact force of an auto?

The stop is tough enough to take it since the current spring provides about as much force as a manual "flick" and the stop seems to be up to that. In anycase the spring can always be reduced or increased inorder to provide more or less force. The real problem is finding off-the shelf spring material w/the right spring constant vs diameter. Having to make your own spring from scratch so it'll work right is a pain.

Yikes...a Sifumatic...looks like great potential...keep on it...

Though I've had and carried a couple auto's they never really took hold of me...till now

, dang you Boo. Largest I used was that big boy S&W forget the name, just didn't like the bulk. That heavy blade flipped out with authority. That being said do you need to wear a seatbelt to operate the Sifumatic or are good gripping shoes enough to protect from 'whiplash'. Sitting here now 'clunking' open my Sifu trying to imagine it as an auto...yeah I think I'm ready
