Just received a 'The Shield' from SK Blades and I'd have to say I'm pretty stoked. Having had a Bucklite 422 as my first real big boy knife, and using a 50th anniversary 110 as my primary hunting knife, I was pretty certain I was going to like the Buck 110 LT, but I wasn't sure what I was going to think of the drop point blade on one.
It's nice! I really like the balance and overall the knife has that 'just right' sort of feeling. I was worried about the 'hump' on the back spring but, in practice, it makes no difference. My particular example has sort of a funky grind issue at the tip (it's almost chisel ground at the very tip), but that'll work itself out eventually as I sharpen it.
I'd intended this to be sort of a lightweight 'keep in the hunting bag' knife just to make sure I never went afield without a knife but, it might take the place of my 'normal' 110 (especially with a decent steel like CPM-154). At least for a year or two. I've never had a problem with field dressing with a clip point blade but this CPM-154 drop point seems nice.
I forgot to mention the sheath, far nicer than I was expecting. I haven't used or seen one of Buck's nylon sheaths for a very long time (not since I owned that 422, which was a different style of sheath) and I didn't know what to expect. I like it!
Now I just need to pick up a 112 LT and start re-living my 422 brandishing Boy Scout youth!
