Just finished this one today. This one is made of AEB-L. Full flat grind that transitions to a high polished zero convex edge.

This one was already spoken for before it was finished. AEB-L is a very fine grained stainless steel designed for razors and is made by Bohler. Makes for a razor sharp low maintenance knife.

and by spoken for, he means that it's mine. mine, mine, mine, mine, mine. mine. mine mine mine mine mine. mine. mine. i could go on, but i'm busy giggling to myself about what's coming. mine.

BAN, I want one!!
That is a nice EDC, AEB-L, you use it often? Is it more or less expensive than most of your usual metals...
BAN: "Makes for a razor sharp low maintenance knife." I like that statement

It really does look like a pretty perfect EDC

I think AEB-L really shines in kitchen knives because it is very corrosion resistant. Has just enough carbon to make it hard enough and most/all if gets converted to chromium carbides. It makes for a surprising tough blade as well because of the very fine grain structure. It is not a super steel by any means. But it makes for a good user steel that takes a razor edge and is easy to resharpen.

got it today, Ban. Great Blade once again. PERFECT little neck/backpack EDC to complement my bad-ass BT4. next on the list is saving up for a big 'ole chopper/zombie de-heading machine....

That's a great combo, congrats!

I have 2 of Ban's awesome pikal, going to need something much larger down line too.

i've been eyeballing those pikal myself. wicked looking blades. i see someone double-fisting a pair of those like you can do, i'm running the other way.

i'm worried about keeping a blade like that sharp. i'm a novice to sharpening. i've got the old standby Lansky kit and i can do a decent job on a standard blade. but i don't think they or i am up to the task of sharpening a pikal. yet.

i say yet b/c Ban's work has piqued my interest in upping that particular skill set. i didn't even know a knife could GET as sharp as both of his have come to me.

Convex edges are simple to maintain and sharpen with a little practice. I have a belt sander now (delta 1x42"), but before that, I used a leather strop and mouse pad. That with some sandpaper and you have yourself a nice convex setup. There's a ton of info all over the web, start here and youtube: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sharpening+convex&aq=f

Let us know if you have any questions. Oh, and practice with some cheaper knives first before attempting to sharpen Ban's knife. If you can't get it sharp, you're more than welcome to send it my way anytime. I'm nowhere as good as Ban, but he's taught me a lot so I can touch it up nicely.

The convex edges are actually quite easy to maintain with a strop and compound. I am still waiting for BushcraftBrainTrust to do a sharpening video with my knives so that I can sticky it somewhere. Oh wait..... I still need to get the knives to him first :D :p

Mrpink is a fast learner and quite adept in the art of sharpening. He also makes some nice knives when he has the time.

In case you guys didn't know. I offer free sharpening on all of my knives for the life of the knife. I will offer this service so long as I am able to grind.

i did not know that.
now i can slice away with no worries!
just drop you a line when they eventually need it, and stick return postage in with the knife(s)?

the edc is perfect around my neck, btw. can't even feel it there. it's perfect.
