Did Schrade make an drop point skinner with gut hook similar to the 158ot but using Staglon handles? I was not able to find a photo of such a knife on Irv's helpful site nor was I able to find any reference of this style when reading Mr. Vincent's insightful information on the AAKP site. I was trolling the bay last night and stumbled upon a drop point w. Staglon handles and (fuzzy photo) tang stamp that appeared to read Schrade+ (over) USA Ltd. With only a few hours remaining in that auction and with the highest bid price at that time being somewhat low, I threw up a number without doing any research on the knife. I awoke this morning to learn that I am the owner of what I now think may be an "end of days" knife.

I don't believe there was a "158UH" the Uncle Henry version, per se, but with an LTD stamp, anything was possible as a SFO (for Ducks Unlimited, NRA, etc). Often times there are ones that show up without an etch. Is there a shield on the handle?

There is a shield on the handle with something engraved within. Many of the pics in the listing are fuzzy, which always raises a red flag w. me. I will post clear pictures of the knife once received.

For those so inclined, search closed bay listing "scharde uncle henery" to see what I'm talking about. BTW, I hope the seller does a more accurate job of spelling my name and address on the shipping label than he did spelling the name and (presumed) model of the knife in his listing.

The knife seems to have the standard Uncle Henry shield! Definately post pics when you get the knife, a nice variation which I've not seen before!

No wonder I did not find it. I've bought a few nice Scrades and Shrades, but never a Scharde. I believe it does have Uncle Henry engraved on the shield. Nice fine.

The seller tells me the shield reads Uncle Henry. That's reassuring.

If you think that Scharde was a nice find ... you gotta see some of the Camillis knives I managed to scoop up ... LOL.

I'm happy to post a pic of this one.

I'm also happy to have recently "upgraded my forums experience." I feel like I've been freeloading long enough. The wealth of information on NY made knives on this and the Camillus thread is priceless. Due in large part to contributions from hard working men and women once employed by Camillus and Schrade. Hats off to you all.

That would be a 158UH. And as the tang stamp suggests, it was a limited edition, not appearing in any catalogs that I am aware of. It was most likely an SFO (special factory order) made for SMKW or DU. They were the two most prolific buyers of such special order knives during the period it was most likely produced.

The 158OTO (orange handled variant) was also likely a short run SFO... probably for SMKW. At the time the 158OT was introduced, the predecessor 154OT was being discontinued as a production knife and only remained available as a platform for SFOs for a short time. The 158OT remained in production thru 2004. One might determine the year(s) of production of the 158UH if he had access to back issues of the SMKW catalogs. SMKW was not very responsive when I asked a few years ago about back issues or records of orders.
