So been looking at all the tweener pron and i cant decide which i prefer the drop point or the clip point....

so it cant hurt to ask, which of the two blade styles do you prefer and more importantly WHY?

I prefer drop points because of tip strength, clip points are more of a game processing kind of style and I only process wood. I have a BK9 which is technically a clip point but its not so dramatic a curve to seem weak, Ive seen clip point BUcks and Gerbers break when stabbed into a log.

I like the drop points better myself. Like HT said, stronger point, good for skinning, easier to make divots in a fire board for a bow drill kit, etc. Also, I just prefer the looks of the drop point over the clip point in general. Personal preference, of course.

Same here !

Drop point, I like the tip better for drilling and overall strength. The tip is the most used part of my knife, it needs to be tough.

I like drop point for function and clip point for aesthetics. So that means I will get both ;) Oh, I may even pick up the Mini Magnum as a precursor to the 5 (which I still don't like). Maybe the Mini Magnum will change my attitude, who knows.

i've heard of the buck clip points breaking, but i thought that was because the steel was kinda soft...420hc vs 1095 *shrugs*
but i guess thats a good point (no pun intended)

bet the clip point is better as a weapon (dont worry, i not buying a weapon, buying a tool) if that is something you needed

Yea, that.

I need to have a strong tip. I also baton a lot, and prefer the strength for that too.

I like the drop point because I am sheep and will follow everyone else.:)
Really because of the reasons other have said. Tip strength and usefulness.

Drop, the small hump back lifts the cutting edge up (knife spine on meat) enough while skinning, so you don't keep snagging on the meat.

I was thinking I liked the drop point the most, but some of the photos i've seen make the clip point look better. I think I'll have to see them all.;)

I do hunt; ergo, I'm getting the clip point. The drop point will be for bushcraft/camping.

Clip for me. I've never had a problem that a clip-point couldn't address, and I like the aesthetics better.

i don't "get" clip points, so, it's not something i'd seek out.

heck, i don't even get swedges, be they tip or spine. i prefer a flat or at least a round over. better utility.

weight savings? please, don't go there :)

what guyon said. if i'm hunting, i've got a clip point for processing. for camping, hiking, bushcraft, etc - drop point.

aesthetics for me, i'm a drop point kind of guy.

and personally, i've noticed if you're out in public with a blade, it seems like people are taken aback more by clip points. the sharper the tip, the surer they are that whoever is holding it wants to stab them....

Clip point is common on knives like Bowie.

Bill Bagwell praises benefits in knife fighting of the clip point. The clip point allows one to cut an assailant as knife slashes in both directions.

Bagwell's book on knife fighting is very informative.

I like the look of drop points and I think they work best for a hunting knife. I'm not a bushcraft person so I don't know which point works best for that but I suspect the point isn't used that much. For my normal EDC use I tend to use the point a lot so a clip point is more practical for me, at least in a folder or small fixed blade.
