I had some free time this morning. I spent it well.
Grabbing my wife's favorite mug and filling it with hot, sweet coffee, I took my BK3 outside for some fun. I bought the girl for $50 off eBay. New, but cheap because the box was damaged. Pfft. Idiots.
Girded up and ready to go
I've had this pine sitting on my back porch for weeks. As you all know, pine is the hardest wood known to mankind and an excellent test for this dainty knife. It was still a little green, but hey, the BK3 didn't care.
Because of the shape, or my poor technique, the BK3 tends to curve in as it bites. I was using a leuku style hold on the knife when chopping. You know, because you care about that sort of thing.
Instead, the BK3 does a much better job of just smashing the stick to shit. Sort of a chop/break combo. I liked it.
A chop into the supporting log revealed what I think you people call fatwood. I'll have to get at it later.
Looking good, it was time for some gloves and glasses... plus I had simply forgot about them earlier.
A thick terra cotta pot on the side of my house that was there when we moved in was giving me shit, so I took care of it.
Same part of the pot, taken care of using the spine.
We have central air. I thought the installers had taken away this old AC.
I gave it a good whack at the corner. Not a bad little start. Good to know it would be easy to finish the job in case my family was trapped inside of it. Sorry for the crap shot of this.
All right, so I got a little nervous about going further, so I just used the BK3 to pry up some vents and see how it did as a pry bar. It did fine.
Some thick, well weathered plywood seemed like a better, more urban challenge for the knife.
It turned out to not be much of a challenge at all.
Oiled up and looking good., but not too good. I don't want to spoil her. All ready for me to send in to Toooj for a warranty claim that the black coating is wearing off.
Thanks for looking!
