I was fumbling around trying to get my keys out of my pocket to open my door when my BM710 got yanked out (thanks to a lanyard I recently added to it) and it fell onto a stone slab at the entrance to my door! It made a loud cracking sound as the G-10 smashed into the stone. DOH! I picked it up, it's fine, not even a scratch. Still opens just as smooth as ever.

So has anyone ever dropped a knife and had it break while in the closed position? Obviously if I had dropped it with the blade open the tip could have snapped off.

I've dropped just about every knife I own and never had problems in the closed position. I seem to have this curse though, I always drop a new folder right on the tip w/ in the first month of owning it. I just did it to my Rittergrip last night....the s30V deformed a bit but I worked out the resulting burr w/ no major drama.

I had a Benchmark Rolox, this was after Gerber had taken Benchmark over, with stag handles and it was the largest model, a Diamondback. It slipped out of my hand one day as I was rolling out the blade and hit on the concrete floor I was standing on. Right in half went the blade! I was absolutely sick as it was my favorite knife at the time. Packaged it up, sent it to Gerber with a letter telling what I had done. A couple weeks later a brand new stag Diamondback shows up! And this one had even nicer stag than the first one had.

the only knife i've had problems with while dropping is the ti-lite, but that's because the wave opener caught and flipped the blade open, then the knife bounced and blade hit the ground.

i just dropped my MT mini socom the other day, it resulted in a nice dent on the aluminum handles. @#$%@! i've beat the hell out of the mini AFCK though and it looks new. g10 sure is hardy material.

I dropped my MT mini socom too. I was on line at a rite aid and fumbling for change and the knife came out partially openned. no damage done, it landed in a shopping basket. But it was embarassing.
