Dropped my Knife

Damn. I was adjusting my sheath on my belt and it slipped off and fell. My knife landed face down on the rocky trail. Splat!

It put a nice dent/chip in the paper/linen (?) micarta handle. Is there anything I can do, or just be thankful I didn't hurt the blade, enjoy the added 'character' and move on?

You just added a chapter to the history of the knife. Don't worry about it.

Or, make up a really good story about how it happened!

Stuff happens. I know it's nowhere near as valuable as your knife, but my SAK's handle has many signs of character from being pocket carried, and got a nice scuff when it dropped the other day. Don't fret, as the saying goes, "shit happens". Maybe you could keep two pairs of grips for your knife- 1 for show, and 1 for work?

Can the dent be sanded down?

Edit - I like the bear fight idea better. I have a 2" scar running down my chin from when I fell off a stack of milk crates as a kid . . but that story takes too long to tell - "bar fight" sounds better.

depending on how deep and where on the handle it is in may possible to sand it down I have done this with g-10 I think it would work the same micarta. But I'm not positive. Just a thought though

Bear fight! lol!

Actually it was a CS Black Bear Classic

I was thinking about sanding it out -- but the grip has some swell or contour to it, so I'm not sure how that would affect it... Anyway I kind of like this story idea!

You could fill the dent with some kind of chemical. I dented my brand new Super Swede and used Flex Coat (a compound used for varnishing sports fishing rods). Worked great!

Bear fight, bar fight... Same thing, just depends on which side of the Mason/Dixon you're on. ;)
