Dry bag vs. box??

Well I'm figuring the old ziplock bag has let me down enough in the past, time to upgrade to a more water tight cell phone and wallet carrier for canoeing.

Phone is 4" x 2" x 1/2" and wallet is 4.5x3.5x1". Impact protection isn't much of a concern (some is nice, but no need to go crazy here), but water resistance is paramount, as is easy access. I do plenty of short (couple hour or less) trips and a few all-day trips typically. Price is also important.

I'm just starting to shop around and need to check out basspro, cabela's and rei still, but hopefully you guys will have a few good ideas to point me the right way!

If you will only need the cell in an emergency then you could seal the cell in a foodsaver bag. I love my foodsaver system and use it all the time for lots more than just food.
It is perfect for a canoe trip because you can seal up dry socks and underwear ,cash as well as food that can be boiled in the bag. It also makes stuff much smaller because it sucks all the air out.

The advantage of an Otter box is that it will give you all the protection you're looking for and more. Just like, you can never have too much computer memory ... :)

Also, you can get into it and reseal it easier than ziplocks or foodsavers.

I wish I was allowed to upload pics.
1) For YOUR exact requirements, AquaPac is the best.

I have a cellphone one that I use with my Slider phone. What's cool about it is that you can actually answer calls and talk through the plastic.
2) I have tested (underwater no less) ALOKSAK as well. These are no ordinary ziplock bags. They rock. you must be extra careful to properly close the bag- but when you do, they are waterlight and are 3-4 times tougher than ziplocks
3) For industrial strength applications, look at OtterBox.

I spend a great deal of time on, over or in the water. I've been using Pelican boxes forever without a single problem. Most are either foam lined or have pluckable foam so you can custom fit your gear. Otter Boxes are very similar, but I have no firsthand experience either them.

I also use a soft clear dry bag similar to this. http://www.overtons.com/modperl/pro..._11_1/2_x_19&str=dry bags&merchID=1008&r=view

Very useful for multiple objects and / or clothing.

Good luck and stay dry!

Dan

I as thinking pelican box initially, but otter looks promising as well. The aquapac sounds interesting, but their website isn't working for me so thats something of a negative; think I'll check out some brick and mortar options this weekend.
