Hey guys,
This is my first post here on blade forums so here goes. I live in MA and want to get an out the front knife. But automatic knives are illegal so im going to have to get a spring assisted. But i want to get a dual action. So the main question is, is there such thing as a dual action spring assisted OTF and it cant have a double edge (because of the law), and if so whats the name of it?
Thanks

My guess would be a non-lethal stage knife or prop knife. Dual action spring assisted may just be the very definition of a OTF automatic knife and Microtech and Benchmade make them. Acquiring the knife and adhering to federal, state and local laws is your business.

there really is no such thing as a true assisted OTF. Even though those schrade and smith and wesson OTF spring assists claim that they are spring assisted they are in fact by definition set forth by many state a local laws switchblades. While it is true that an assisted opener is defined as any knife where pressure is a applied to a flipper or thumbstud and must manually be opened a certain percentage before a torsion bar or other device aids in the assistance of deploying the blade their is another definition that gets in the way. And that is many laws definition of a switchblade. In my area it is described as any knife in which has a blade that opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in the handle of the knife. The job of a police officer is not to interpret the laws. His job is to enforce them. So if he sees me carrying something that is "questionable" its not his job to sit there and decide whether the knife is illegal. His job is to enforce that it may be illegal and either warn or arrest me and let the judge and lawyers decide whether I was inside or outside the rules of the law. Knowing that you take a risk carrying any knife because even with areas with very relaxed laws on knife ownership and carry even a butter knife can turn into an unlawful use of a weapons charge. Im not a lawyer so i cant give anyone guaranteed legal advice. I do have my own bit of experience and have discussed the issue with my own lawyers and am simply repeating what I was told in court. A dual action spring assisted OTF so far has not been invented. But even if it is even the single action assisted otf knives I would highly recommend seeking advice from your local authorities.
