dual waterstone. How to separate them?

Hey guys,

I have a dual sided waterstone, that is "glued" (i think) to a rubber pad in the middle. They are good stones I just want to separate them. Does anyone know of a chemical that might release the glue/kill the rubber, but not hurt the stones?

Thanks!

Lighter fluid or brake cleaner maybe? I would think they would both evaporate given enough time leaving the stones untouched. Both dissolve glues for sure. I'd wait for others to chime in though.

Probably epoxy. If you could get them hot enough it would melt. Maybe boiling in water or a heat gun would do it. Just a guess. Hang on for more input.

If it is rubber in the middle, you might try to saw them apart with some fine cable. Then you could sand off the remaining bits and true up the stones on the backsides.

For a chemical attack, I'd try either acetone or MEK, with a little mechanical persuasion thrown in (persistent picking.)

I would try soaking in acetone first. Pretty good at dissolving most types of glue short of the industrial grade stuff.
Just for interest, why do you want to separate the stones? I would have thought dual sided stones would be very convenient.
