Here's a nice fillet knife I recently acquired. It was sold as "used" and I bought it thinking it would be a classy "user" fillet knife this year but it arrived in great shape and now I'm torn. To use or not to use?
I have no idea how many of these were made or when but the white delrin makes for a refined look. Anyone know anything about this one?

That is a pretty knife. I have a special fondness for fillet knives, among 1314 other types. lol! I have 3 different ones in my kitchen that are great for certain tasks. I doubt if they made very many of that particular ilk. You are the only person on earth who can decide what you put away and what you use. It is absolutely subjective, except to say that most collectors don't make much money on knives, and that no valuable knife is worth one red cent until it is sold. If it was mine, I would get a user to use and put that one away for awhile. As Forrest Gump would say, "for no particular reason."

Thanks for the comments guys. It's the only one of these I've seen so I think it's going on display and a regular 167UH will stay my "user".

The sheath that came with it is nice too but it needs some work: stitching, cleaning etc. I will add a scan of it when I'm done. It has the metal insert which is earlier than the composite insert which likely dates this one to the '80s or very early nineties. I haven't been able to pin down exactly when the sheath insert changed.

Thanks for the super fast and complete info Larry! 500 made seals it: this ones retired. Might not see another in this shape for a while. I bet a lot of folks used this one. It begs it.

A friend pointed out a recent auction of one of these knives so I took the below pic to show how mine looks just before it's first bass work-out. I have changed my mind on this one since two years ago. It's going into use.

I re-stitched the sheath because it had a few cut threads and used some leather preservative a friend gave me to try. Sorry, I can't recall the brand right now. I decided I had earned a "step-up" fillet knife to use but I still can't bear to mar my COPE stag one. This stamped Scrimshaw fit the bill. Not everybody's UH167 but still a tough, delrin handled knife that I won't cry about when/if it gets beat-up, lost or stolen.

This will be the fifth UH167 I've put into use since 1986. For some reason this pattern disappears on me. Turns out you CAN lose your Uncle Henry after all. My fierce and venomous toad Mesmer is guarding this one round-the-clock! No, he doesn't look confused. He's guarding it!
