I picked this up today at a flea market, I think I paid too much, but oh well. I really like it, it isn't too often I'll fork up that much cash for a knife. What can ya'll tell me about it, possible date of manufacture and how many were produced, and a ballpark price for something like this. I'm working on a little wall hanging display for it right now, I may have to add a couple more of these o the collection, just feels soooo good in the hand.
TIA

MM,
I have a PH-2 that is a IKCA knife of the year for 2000. I paid $75 for it and think that I got a decent deal. It comes in a very pretty presentation box. I have heard of others in that $75 price range, so if you pay less than $75 you are probably fine. Real pretty knife though.:thumbup: :D

Your knife is hallmarked.

The first stamping is for Schrade Cutlery. The second represents their Corporate logo, the upraised hammer, and signifies that the item was made in Ellenville, New York. The third stamping denotes the year of manufacture. From what I have been able to find, the letter D is for 1988, therefore:
E = 1989
F = 1990
G = 1991

Your knife is hallmarked 1991. The first 500 of these burgandy handled "PH2DU" were specified for shipping by mid-December,1991 with the balance of the 3,000 total being shipped in 1992.

The handle material is burgandy delrin, not micarta. The brass guard was modified from PH1 guard stock. The knife was shipped in a white gift box with gold foil printing, and had a black leather sheath with gold duck head stamp, a 1/8" x 4 1/2 oz. x 22" black leather thong. Mr. G was again responsible for the blade etch art.

Many thanks for all of the wonderful information guys. I knew the stampings on the guard meant something, just wasn't sure what :). That also answers another question that was floating around inside my head, was the thong orig. 'Shame the guy didn't have the box for it. Many Many Thanks!

The correct boxes and white sleaves are still out there, unused. Someone you know likely has several of them (not I). The same boxes were used for the PH1 and PH2 DU knives, only the end stickers changed.

Again, congrats on a very nice LE PH2!
