I hope I don't sound like I'm splitting hairs here: I currently have a roll of 3M brand Home and Shop Duct Tape as part of my emergency supplies kit but I saw a roll of Scotch Professional HVAC Duct Tape at Home Depot (for nearly twice the price) today.

Should the "Professional" duct tape be in the kit instead? Never having used this, I'm not sure if it would be well suited for this purpose (ie. Is it easy to tear by hand? Is the glue too sticky?).

Just wanted to hear what others thought.

I've used the home and office stuff and have some in our emergency kit, but havn't tried the professional grade to give you a comparison on the two. We bought some of the military stuff instead and I've wrapped it around sheaths, flashlights, etc. for use in my different away packs. I like the stuff and use it for a multitude of jobs.

The pro stuff is worth it, I think. I've been buying it at an HVAC supply for a while. It does leave residue if it has been in place for very long, but I think ,ost does anyway. I would suggest that you be prepared to cut it for best results -- you can tear it, but not as neatly as the regular tape.

Several places on line have done duct tape testing do a google and read the results to see how your tape holds up against how you intend to use it.
