I'm bringing up this subject again for two reasons. One, Jeff never came back to report on what he found out when (or if) he contacted the supplier to find out for sure what the bolsters/frames of the new 500 Dukes are made of. And second, I sent an e-mail to Joe and asked him for info and here's his response to me today. It appears to me that Joe has his doubts about the real answer both now and in the past.
My question to Joe:
"Joe,
There has been some question about the frame/bolster material used in the Duke 500, both old and new. The new ones are shown as having NS bolsters, but Jeff Hubbard came on and said that they didn't transition from SS to NS when the rest of the series did.
He also stated that he would check with the "supplier" to find out for sure what was being used, but has not come back to the forum with an answer.
Could you check into this and get back to us? I'm wondering why Buck would stick with SS for the 500, when all the other 500 series models have gone to NS."
Joe's response today:
"Dave,
That one had bothered me for some time. If I remember right, the older catalogs are not correct. My only hope is to see if I can find any internal documents that explain it. As for the new 500, I sent an email to our person that deals with our supplier. I should get an answer from him soon.
Take care,
Joe Houser"
