I spoke with Mr. Dula in Lenoir N.C. He says the steel used in this custom knife is referred to as "1011" and he purchased it from a West Virginia Knifemaker named "Wilson" who apparently is a steel salesman also. No contact info for Wilson was available from Mr. Dula. He says that hunters really like the steel and normally skin 4 deer before re-sharpening. He assures me that the knife is a "high carbon steel". So there may be some un-usual steel designation being used in this instance. Dula also thought this steel was used in the manufacture of Spark Plugs ( dosen't seem to me that a high carbon steel would be used in that application???). Has anyone heard of a West VA. Knifemaker named "Wilson"?? It would be awfull if someone made this nice of knife out of a junk steel, all the wasted skill, labor and time would be a shame. Stll need info on "Wilson" and "1011" steel. Thanks for replying.

I might be wrong but doesn't 1011 steel have only 11 percent carbon?

And for example 1090 steel has 90 percent carbon. Right?

Maybe?

You made the same mistake that I did in a post on this subject in the custom knife forum. Your percentages should be .11 and .90 and yes that would be correct if it is AISI 1011 that we are talking about. This could possibly be another steel.

Thanks Keith, you're completely right.

My way doesn't even make any sense if you think of the impossible amount of carbon in the steel!
I'll have to remember that.
