A few months back I pulled a muscle (rectus abdominus) right under the right side of my rib cage wrestling with a huge piano I had to get out of the house before Christmas. I thought nothing of it than more than just a strain. Over the course of 4 months I have noticed that I have a dull pain in that area when I sit or lean over. This past week it has been sharp at times. I went to the doc and he said I may have ruptured something. I go for an ultrasound on Wed. This sucks.

Hernia city. Take care of it now. If you let it go, like I have, it feels like a heart attack. Costa chondritis, if I spelled it correctly. Yep, you're gonna have it forever, but you can lessen the pain now.

Yup. a feeling often described as "like I'm having a heart attack" is one common symptom of a hernia. Sorry.

This is actually not necessarily a bad thing. The situation is well understood. The surgery is routine. Recovery is usually quick and complete. Hernia would not be a bad option.

I hear ya', Chuck. I would rather have a hernia than a heart attack!

Ken, sounds like something I'd do, sure we're not related? ;)

Buddy ya gotta learn ya ain't as young as ya used ta be, I'm sure things will turn out alright. :)

Went for the Ultrasound today and I will have to wait until Friday for the results. I might have torn and abdominal muscle, I may have a tumor, I may have nothing. Just have to wait and see. I'll tell you one thing...I felt like smashing the mouth of the radiologist. He tells me I might have a torn muscle, then retracts that statement, confirs with his assistant, says he sees something but is not sure what it is and that I'll have to wait for the results on Friday. BASTARD!!! WHY DID HE SAY ANYTHING AT ALL TO ME???!!!! Now the jerkoff has me worried that I might have a tumor or something. AAAAAARGH!!! WHY DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO GET THE IDIOTS WORKING ON ME?!!!! WHY???!!!! I just got over worrying about my wife and now I have to deal with this crap.

I used to work for a large veterinary hospital fixing x-ray equipment and got to more than once watch an ultrasound on a pregnant dog. This was one of the very few exams the dogs didn't seem to mind. It doesn't hurt, they get to lay down, and they're the center of attention. I remember more than once watching the screen as Dr. Barbee exclaimed, "Look, there's one, two, three, four... no, five puppies!" And I'm looking that the screen thinking, "Are you sure that TV is set to the right channel? I have no idea what you're seeing. It all looks like so much static to me." It's a pitty that they didn't have a radiologist just do your scan. Anyway, a good radiologist can see amazing things in those fuzzy images.

I'm no doctor (though I play one on the Internet :D ), but since your pain started with a heavy-lifting injury, I'm going to guess that it's highly unlikely that it's a tumor. It's some sort of physical/mechanical injury. Lifting pianos doesn't cause cancer. Lifting pianos can cause muscle tears and hernias.

We'll all be praying for the best diagnosis for you.

Ken, you will do fine. Worry is sometimes 80 per cent of the problem. Hang in there.

Easy to say Ken, but no point in worrying about what you don't know, and as for the Tech, they are not supposed to say anything, they are not doctors, I'd complain to the hospital.
