Thought i would share a story of shame. I spend alot of time w/ knives or other sharp things like carbide cutters, TIN coated drill bits, the list can go on a good way. I also have a massive collection of garage sale kitchen and pocket knives i bought to teach myself how to sharpen free hand. Paint is i have lots of sharp things all over. On with the story, the other day i was at work and someone came in with a 25' measuring tape needing a refill. I pull the tape most of the way out and it jams up, absent mindedly i grasp harder w/ my left hand and give it a solid jerk the end of witch resulted in me breaking the tape breaking. I threw it out and went back to filling out a paper, a few minutes later i got up and went for the door and apon grabbing the handle relized i was bleeding pretty good from my left hand. I was cut across the finger and a small section of palm. It didn't feel like i had been cut until i looked at it and saw i had a decent cut in my hand that would probably warrant stitches but not wanting to go to the hospital i cleaned it out myself and put some duct tape over it until later that evening. Im not saying it was a large cut mabee 3 stiches on my finger and a few on my palm but what suprized me was a somewhat dull edge cut me kinda deep and i didn't even feel it.Ironic that it was a tape mesure that got me not something i know to be sharp. Anyway please haze me as needed and give stories of similar happenings.

I have been cut my tape measures before. I cut the area between my thumb and forefinger when I pulled the tape out pretty fast while that part of my hand was in the way. I've also got some pretty nasty cuts from cardboard boxes, I really didn't expect that

Years ago, as an ignorant teenager, I was on a nature hike with my classmates, in a local "wetland" -- a swamp. As we walked through the reeds, I ran my hands along the stems, lightly squeezing the long stiff leaves against the stems, and then releasing them.

A few minutes later, I wondered why my hands were tingling. I held them up to see dozens of long cuts across my palms and thumbs from the sharp stiff edges of the leaves ... :(

At work I handle lots of thin aluminum printing plates. If you feel the edges of them as you would test a knife edge, they would seem to be very dull. These "dull" plates have cut the HELL out of me lots of times. Since I avoid stitches on everything but the goriest of wounds, I always just use Super Glue, but I know lots of people who have been sent out for stitches.

I have also cut myself with one of those flexible metal rulers. (the ones with the cork backing)

Paper will cut you really bad too. Back in school, we used to have a joke where you'd be sitting there holding a piece of paper when a friend walked up. When the friend got close, you'd act like you were smelling the paper... when they asked what you were doing, you'd say "this paper smells funny. It smells like lemons or something - here, you smell it". When your friend (maybe former friend) went to smell the paper (you'd put the edge of the paper under their nose) you'd give 'em a good paper cut right across that small piece of skin on the bottom of their nose - ZIP! That used to hurt like hell.

It's amazing what will cut you that shouldn't...

Dull things can cut? Too right! I have cut myself many times, therefore: dull things can cut! QED.

Once, when I was reaching to unlock the passenger door on an old Ford LTD, my finger bounced off the top of the knob. There was a slightly raised portion on top of the rounded knob that was by no means sharp, but the way my finger hit it caused a suprisingly deep and very clean cut, just like a razor blade would make.

I hate when that happens!

I found a piece of alumimum ducting on the road years ago, figured it would come in handy "one of these days". Took it home and threw it up in the rafters, it came down so I caught it and threw it back up. I looked down at where my thumb attaches and noticed a red line...hmmm thats interesting. I open my thumb out to stretch the red line to get a better look, bad mistake. I saw my tendons and severed blood vessels for a brief moment before the tidal wave of blood came gushing out. I can still count the 8 stiches it took to seal it up. And no, I never used the ducting...threw it away about ten years later.

Last year I found out that split bamboo can cut. I was playing tug of war with my boss' dog, when he happened to yank one good time, causing the piece of bamboo to split, then slide out of my hand. I felt a slight sting, and looked down, noticing a quauntity of blood flowing from my hand. Needless to say, I have more respect for bamboo..also, fishing line can cut like a razor blade, and leaves a wound that takes forever to heal.

I have also cut my hand and fingers through the mis-handling of a tape measure. :O

Manilla folders can cut the crap out of you as well, an once when I was in a hurry to seal an envelope, I got a paper cut on my tounge. THAT really hurt. Oh well, live and learn.

FYI, the only bad thing about using superglue on cuts is that it breaks down into materials that are toxic to your body. If you have any friends that work in an ER ask them for a couple of Derma-bond tubes and you will be good to go.:)

When I worked in the post office, paper cuts were so common, most of us just carried bandaids in our wallets for them.

Paper cuts...Man, for something that can't be sharpened on a Sharpmaker, paper can sure cut!.

A friend of mine was a K9 Officer, he had to take his dog in to the vet for a bit of surgery. The Vet started the cut with a scalpel and then tore the skin the rest of the way. When my friend asked why he didn't just cut it through, the Vet replied "It heals faster if its a more ragged opening rather than a neat slice". I suppose that explains all the horror stories of seemingly minor cuts caused by the sharpest edges taking forever to heal. I guess the ragged edges have a better tendency to regrow on each other.

I hate paper cuts. Ouch! Apparently a freshly minted bill can cut a pencil lead! And elephant grass (aka "lalang" grass) cuts like crazy, especially if you grab a bunch of them and let them slide in your palm.

Car parts... Flying wrench accelerates hand into dull object, after you figure out if you still have all your fingers, and the bruising isnt to bad you wonder what this red stuff is!

Only half kidding! I've had hoods cut me!

2 years ago I was trying to start the fan on a stubborn old window air conditioner by spinning it with my hand. Just as I was thinking I should really be using a tool instead of my finger my it got sliced by a sheet metal name plate that wasn't glued down all the way. Pert near took the tip of my index finger right off  I hate when that happens :grumpy: . Another time I ripped the bottom of my finger open on the head of a nail when I was tearing down a cedar closet. I always find it funny that my worst cuts haven't come from knife blades.

well its good to know im not alone in the; cut by stupid crap that shouldn't cut you club.

I recently had a nasty cut from some water! We had left the ice bucket (from ice-maker) on the counter during a party, and put it back in the freezer. Of course it all froze together in one big mass. I was trying to break apart the ice and got a nasty broken-glass type cut (jagged and deep) right on the base knuckle of my thumb. Bled like crazy. Surprised the heck out of me!

I have this phobia about paper cuts. I avoid any situations where one would be likely, and have been lucky so far. I've gotten a few cardboard box cuts though.

I went through a phase where I bought briar blocks for making tobacco pipes.Briar is as tough as steel (you cut it with a hack saw)and the best tool for shaping the bowl is a dremel with a cutting bit.Apparently, when briar is growing, the wood takes anything in its way and swallows it up.Well,I was shaping a pipe one day when I noticed blood dripping on to my pants. My dremel bit had hit a very small stone which was hurled into my forehead!Took forever to dig it out:eek:
