I never claimed to have much knowledge when it comes to knives, sharp end goes in the other guy first, etc. But, help me out here, if it's easy to sharpen, doesn't it dull easy as well, and vice versa? Just curious.

It depends on what is making the knife difficult to sharpen. If the knife has a low grindability it generally means a high wear resistance and thus the relationship you describe can be seen if the edge isn't honed with optimal use of microbevels. There are others factos however such as an increase in hardness tends to minimize burr formation and thus the edge will sharpen easier and stay sharper longer.
