I thought I would smooth out the finish on my HI Jungle Knife today. Dumb idea. I should have left the blackend forged finish on it. I am not used to working hand made hammer forged blades. They are a bit rough and uneven.

This was the best I could do today. I just ordered some more sanding belts. To be continued....

I don't think it looks bad myself. I do think you've reduced the corrosion resistance though.

I like the blade shape!

Oh man, the forge finish is what I really like about these knives. You must send this one to me for proper disposal as it is obviously no longer a functional knife.:D

I will save it. I just need new belts. No sense doing anything half fast. As for corrosion resistance, once I get a smoother finish, it will be fine. 5160 isn't that bad to keep shiny. It sure cuts well now. Live and learn. I'll leave that rough forge finish next time. :D

Does it still cut stuff? If yes, then it's still good, proceed.:D

I almost went and did the same thing to my BC one day, luckily I realized what I was doing before I went to far.

The jungle knife is a good size and weight, I like the handle better too, real good cutter, You'll like it Danny.
The only problem I had was when I cut some partially dried bamboo about 1 1/4" diameter,(hard stuff) had a few dings in the edge about half way down, a little below the sweet spot, straightened them out and ground back a little, seems ok now.

Well I got in the new belts today and did some serious surface grinding, but some of those hammer marks are deep. So I just convexed it and called it good. I like the knife a lot. I need to get a leather sewing kit and repair some stiches in the sheath. The knife cuts and chops great. I'll just let the natural saps and such give it a patina. :D Next time, I'll know better.

I don't agree with that as the work you have done improves its looks but then I like them all shinny and purty!;)

I'd happily pay more for a full polish version direct from HI.

I think it came out great! Don't know if it's the angle of the photos, but looks like a small Kopis!

Hadn't looked at the first photos for awhile/again and didn't remember the blade shape being so curved. I still think you made a nice knife even better looking! Nice job! Are you liking it against your other big blades?

I'll bet you can't slice through the sapling that's in the pic with a single swing.

I DOUBLE DOG DARE YA! :p

I like it better than many. Some big blades are just too heavy to be useful for slashing brush.
