Dumb Micarta question

I'm sorry. I have a really dumb question about Micarta Handles. I have a RAT 3 that I got wet. Now that it's good and dry it seems that the Micarta Handles will soak up any and all moisture really easy. Is there something I can do to prevent this? I planned on using this knife for field dressing chores this fall...but I can only imagine what a blood soaked handle will smell like.

Advice?

As far as I know, only the outer surface absorbs anything. It doesn't go in like a sponge.

i think blood might stain them, Ive never gotten blood on micarta, you might be able to wash it out with alcohol or something,

Blood can and will stain canvas Micarta, as well as oil, grease, etc. It's not a completely impermeable material, and is porous. If you want complete stain resistance, get G10.

I guess I will remove my RAT 3 scales before deer season.

You could treat them with some sort of Thompson's Water seal. Or para cord wrap your handle to make it somewhat comfy, you can always dispose of the cord and rewrap in a pinch.

automotive clearcoat will seal it off for sure if the handle scales are removable, if not then it will still absorb on the uncoated side that butts up against the tang.
