Dumb question about Mnandi thumb notch

Hello !

I just get my first Mnandi; and I have a stupid question...

I don't know if the thumb notch is properly machined or not... comparing it to most of the photos here, it looks as if has not properly finished... also I haven't been able to actually open it using my thumb; it just slips and don't feel grippy at all, but rather shallow and slippery.

But then; I've noticed some other most recent pictures that looked similar to mine... so now I'm wondering if this is a new style of notch... or it's really wrong...

So... anyone can tell me for sure if mine is Ok or should I send it to get fixed ?

Thanks for your advice, guys !

As ganagati mentioned, you have the new nail nick.
As far as opening one handed. I find it easier if you have your thumb perpendicular to the blade when opening.

With the new style notch, I have to pinch it open with thumb and middle finger. I much prefer the old notch for both looks and function. It is larger and has a sharp edge that catches on my thumb perfectly. It's easier to open then any other CRK in my opinion. I pretty much stick to the old notch Mnandis now.

And here I was, thinking I got a defective Mnandi... I even was about to return it to the seller... silly me !.

Yes, mine was born on late Oct 2012... I was aware of the new clip; but not on the new notch.

Now I'm just trying the thumb and middle finger pinch opening method... I can open it now, but feels some cumbersome to me.... I'm thinking now the redesign was done with the purpose of having this opened two handed, like an old school slip joint... who knows ?

Anyway; I'm definitely going to keep it now... mostly as a safe queen or special occasion knife rather than an EDC.

Thanks all you guys for your insight...

Best regards !.

I rarely carry the Mnandi, thought I would but I usually just carry the small StarBenza, I love that knife.

If that's the case, I'd like to offer you the opportunity to offload some of those mnandis you've been picking up over the last couple months. I'm sure they're just sitting there taking up space that could otherwise be occupied, and we wouldn't want that. :)

I'm not a fan of the new style nail nick either.... however, I would rather have a Mnandi with the new style nail nick, if it means having the new style pivot and clip. I didn't like the new clip at first, but it's the one I prefer now. Looks more like a pen in the pocket, and it never catches textile. In a prefect world, it would be the older nick, and newer clip and pivot.

What changed on the pivot ?
