Dumb Question re: Leather Thong

Here's where I prove how really dumb I am.
I want to add a leather thong to some hunters. I have seen some really well done lacing and some that is rather crude. Can anybody direct me to a tutorial or advise how to do a tight thong about 3 inches long (completed length), that turns back and coils around its self?

If you know how to round braid with 4 strands, it is a piece of cake. Use a single piece of material and double it. Pass it through the hole and leave the 2 loose ends longer than the other doubled end. Pass the loose ends back and forth through the doubled end and when you run out of room to do that, you have an end with out a knot and two loose ends that look good. :)
Keep the braids flat and it will be round when you get through,if not, roll it back and forth between your hands to round it up.
 
Thank-you Gentlemen. I know I learned this back in the Boy scouts but I just couldn't get my mind around it when I went to do it. Amazing what you can forget when you havn't done it in 40 years.
