What is a "passaround", how does it work? And what is slipjoint  . I'm familiar with liner lock, lock back, auto, semi auto, but don't know what is meant by slipjoint.

"Passaround" is where usually 10 people on Bladeforums agree to chip in to buy an item (knife) and then each person gets it for a week and then Passes it on (thru mail) to the next until everyone has had a chance to "play" with said item. The idea is to get something either expensive or unusual so folks can try before buy.
see rules for this below (in the passaround forum)

A slipjoint, or slippie, is a non-locking folding knife which is held open/closed by a liner spring. (The blade "slips" past the spring leaf) This could be a victorinox Swiss Army KNife (SAK), or a traditional 1-4 bladed classic.

There is a traditional forum where a great deal of those types are discussed:

A slipjoint is an old fashioned folder without a lock, like a muskrat or stockman or Laguiole.

Go to the Passaround forum and check on their latest. They get a knife and send it from one person to another on a sign-up list, so everyone gets a chance to try it out and comment on how they like it.
