I have been going thru the normalize and anneal cycles on a big cable Bowie today and I brought the blade up to just below critical in the HT oven....and when I went to take the blade out....liquid metal came rolling out the door and started a flameup on the workbench.....WTF!! I say!

Turns out I had placed an aluminum block in there the last time I used it as a prop for a 350F temper cycle. I saw the darn thing in there but it just didnt occur to me it would melt.

Looked pretty cool though.....like the evil Terminator or something

Sound like a good prank to pull on another knifemaker. Pull the old switcharoo when their not looking :)

Greg you may want to start using a steel block :D

new saying
a mind is a terrible thing to waste, but if your memory don't work the mind don't matter anyway :D

Heck, that's just a minor inconvience.Try putting a gold ring in the oven to re-enamel at 300 degrees, and having the temperature controller fail - running it up to 2200 or so. All that was left was a puddle of molton gold and burned up diamonds. Not a good day (or happy customer).
PS- the fumes from aluminum ,brass, etc. can mess you up,don't do this for fun.
