After dumping the trash pulled into a commuter parking lot for access to a trail.

Yes that's kitty litter from torn trash bags. I hate cats but they have protection. LOL!

The snow is deep and I am playing footie with the latest winter storm.

Slippery. I risk a wet food but endeavored to persevere.

Mountain laurels in the falling snow.

There were deer all over the place. Seen a few really close.

Hemlock for the tea.

American beechnut.

Some ledges though the trees.

This hemlock has seen better days.

Time to boil that hemlock tea. I didn't bring any of my tarp cords for the poncho but do have my little PSK.

Didn't have enough line for the poncho without cutting up my PSK's cordage. I do however have a neck knife.

Ok that works.

Fast temporary shelter means slip knots. Not sure I would trust them overnight in heavy wind but for light snow and tea sure.

Not my best but kept the snow off my head.

Not a camp fire but this would do. Took my little 11 oz hiker sized fuel tank. Had to kick back a few feet of snow for the stove. Could of made a platform but didn't see any dead wood and won't cut anything alive for such a trivial task.

Waited until the boiling stopped then tossed the needles in to steep.

Yup I got a gun. Have at least two miles to travel in this bear and zombie infested woods.

I believe that not packing at least 2 edged tools and firesteels per mile of distance traveled is suicide. Only a madman, fool or chuckle head wouldn't conform to this simple preparation before heading out into the woods. If a rescue is required I read that anyone so ill prepared as not to have this basic requirement will be charged the cost of their rescue. What if the Glock fails to take down the attacking bears and zombies or zombie bears for that matter? Only the full sized Shawnee hawk will do in such dire circumstances.

This is part of my old school tool, Kydex and paracord fusion program. The paracord works much like leather to keep the head from moving and protect the very top of the handle. The kydex makes for a nice sheath which won't retain water.

Edged tool number 2 is an Anza knife. Thick file carbon steel that won't break off in a zombie bear's eye.

Edge tool number 3, a MP Knives black smith or striker knife. I put reflective cord on the handle.

This is another old school tool fusion.

Due to the shape I needed to flare out the Keydex sheath so it would fit yet had to be careful not to harm the retention. It works great.

The knife was tested to start fires 3 different ways. First as a ferro rod striker off the very front of the spine, second as a flint and steel striker off the spine and third as a friction fire aid using the neck lanyard and blade to help make a bowdrill set. But what about my 2 firesteel per mile requirement? I also made a replacement firesteel in case the one on the sheath is used up within the first 1/2 mile. Beyond that included a larger firesteel and holder which fits the sheath.

Ok I know what you're thinking. I said two miles and have only shown 3 edged tools and firesteels. That's why I pack a PSK!

Drank some Hemlock tea pouring the rest in my canteen for the walk out.

I have a larger Anker power pack but needed another smaller one to replace my 2600 mAh power bar which is being employed in an USB lighting project. Just under 15 bucks shipped for 3200 mAh. Not bad and like my larger Anker it works.

The zombie bears appeared to have moved on so all packed up and ready to go! Thanks for looking.

That was great, thanks for sharing.
And for all of you who scoff at zombie bears, you had better be prepared.
They are out there.

Nice post, enjoyed the pics. Which glock is that and how do you carry it?
Josh

Zombies got to eat too.

Looks like you had a nice day. There is something about getting out in the woods with a reasonable amount of snow on the ground to make it fun. ...As long as you don't slip and fall and break your neck of course. Got to kill something and leave it for the zombies. :D

WW you have awesome posts and reports. Thanks! It costs me money every time you do post these because you always have some cool kit I've never seen or didn't know about. Going shopping for the Anker power pack today. Last post I ended up getting the ice grippers.

Anyway your zombie bear blaster appears to be a GLOCK Generation 2 G19 or 23 with original polymer sights. Is that right? Great woods gun! Keep up the great reports!

great idea on that kydex handle for a firesteel...i'll try that one day.

Thanks for sharing. I like that Anza knife…I may have to drive down to El Cajon. Anza Knives is only a few minutes east from where I live and I should probably go and see if I don't come home with some knives that I don't need :D.

Buying unneeded knives is the one skill I excel at. :)
