This set of scales started their life as scrap, thrown in the dumpster at my local Tap Plastics. Some large and round was cut from a sheet and the corners were not big enough for them to cut for their "scraps and cutoffs" bin. I live about 250 feet from tap plastics in a historic shopping district, so I cruise by their dumpster pretty frequently. I also bought some acrylic sheets from the scraps bin, all cut to 7"X10" for $1.00 each. That's enough for 5 sets of scales per sheet! Anyways, this set is 3mm smoke acrylic with red acrylic wedge. No glue in the wedge either.
The blade is nothing really special, was a decent condition salvage from the antique store for a few dollars, I will be trying some different things out with it too.
Specs:
5/8 blade
Dixie Mfg. Co.
Union City, GA
Smoke acrylic scales
1/16" copper pins hand hammered
Red acrylic wedge, glueless assembly
Brass tubing bushed pivot
I need to remove the frown from this blade and reset the bevels and then it is to be honed and used.
Comments and critiques are encouraged.
