This is my first review, so bear with me guys :p

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Dumpster Mutt and kydex sheath thanks to Wash and Eric at O/ST (thanks again guys  )

Here are the general specs for the DM from the SYKW site:
Steel: SR-77
Hardness: 58 - 60 Rc
Handle: Resiprene C
Thickness: Approx .285"
Blade Length: 5" with penetrator tip
Overall Length: 9 1/2"

The knife hasn’t been put through any use, but I thought I’d give my first impression of the knife.

General:
I know this has been said before about Scrap Yard knives but this thing REALLY is built like a tank. It has the thickest blade I’ve ever seen, and it’s heftier than my Kabar USMC which is 3 inches longer. It’s not uncomfortably heavy though in my hand or on my belt, and I like the balance of the knife. This is definitely something I would like to have with me if I were in a SHTF situation.

Handle:
The Resiprene handles are very comfortable, but I can see how some people complain about the handle being too small. I have small/medium sized hands and the DM fits them just right. They absorb shock very well, but I still prefer micarta.

Fit and Finish:
The F&F was very well done on the DM. The grind is nice and even along the entire length of the edge, and the coating reveals the same amount of edge on both sides, a problem which I’ve had with some coated fixed blades in the past. I’m impressed considering these knives are built from . . . you know, scrap parts.

The kydex sheath Eric made for me is great. I have another OST sheath for my Mora 2000, and they definitely offer the most secure hold for both knives. I highly recommend you check them out.

Conclusion: I have to say, this is one hell of a fixed blade. The heft and solid feel really boosts my confidence in its “indestructibility.” As much as I like this knife though, IMHO it’s stuck in that size range where it’s not big enough to be a chopper but not small enough either for more delicate tasks that I would reserve for my Moras or my RAT-3.

Here’s a pic of the DM along with some of the other fixed blades in my collection (I apologize in advance for my terrible picture-taking abilities):

Ludwig: Thanks for the review. The Dumpster Mutt looks like one heck of a tough fixed blade and I like tough. Bring us some more reviews.

Thanks for the kind words. I really enjoy your videos, they motivated me to buy my USMC Kabar.

Nice review.
Does the blade seem controllable even with the smaller handle?

The DM is definitely a little blade heavy, but the grip fits my hand really well so it doesn't feel uncontrollable. The finger choil helps too if you need more control, but while the blade length is listed at 5", there's only about 4" of cutting edge.

PS - To give you an idea of my hand size, the grip on my RAT-3 just fits my hand.

Literally a sharpened prybar. It's also S7 steel, so it's probably tougher/stronger than a prybar. There are some (like me! :D ) who like a do all "knife" and leave the fine cutting to our S.A.K.s. I have a Ranger that is 1/4in. thick and the blade is only 4". Cuts like a sunofabitch though, and I could cut my way out of a car wreck/ burning building etc.
