Dumpster Mutt tip question

No Scrapyard forum so I thought I would post this here. I just got my dumpster mutt le this evening. Nice knife. My question is:It says in the description that it has a "penetrator" tip. From the regular dumpster mutt, and my battle rat, I am assuming that this means a small sharpened swedge grind along the spine aspect of the tip. The Le is advertised as having the penetrator tip but, mine at least, doesn't have the grind. The picture on the site doesn't seem to show it on the le either. Did they forget to grind it in?, or am I all wrong on the meaning of " penetrator tip"???? i still like the knife, but I think I would like it better with a little swedge grind.

The Penetrator tip is a very small grind (~1/2") on either side of the tip, not an extensive swedge. You can just barely see it on the tip of this HOFSHLE:

I just looked at my DM LE and I do not see a penetrator tip. If it is there, it is the most subtle penetrator tip I have ever not been able to find. :)

I looked at my dmle under a magnifier and still didn't see a penetrator tip. I bet it was either a missprint on their website, or an accident on their part that they forgot to grind the tip. I am absolutely sure that they wouldn't try a fast one on anybody. Based on the Busse family record in customer service, I am sure they will make it right if asked. I just don't know if it is worth sending it back in as postage there and back would make it cost another twenty bucks or so......don't know how bad I want a penetrator tip....would be nice for drilling in the woods though.

As gimmejr's post suggests, Scrap Yard has a forum separate from Bladeforums. It is a pretty active forum actually.

We don't need no stink'n Scrapyard knives here!!!!!

John I got mine yesterday and thats exactly how mine looks, no penetrator tip. I was a bit confused as well and I am glad we have this post.

Maybe when they set up the section of the web page for the Dumpster Mutt LE, they copied the text for the Dumpster Mutt, and simply neglected to omit that aspect of its specifications. Just a thought...

Barrabas,

Let us know if Dan makes an appearance over there with some feedback on this issue.

Just got mine today and no penetrator tip on it either. I will say though that in other respects it seems like it will be a better user than the original version.

No Penetrator Tip on my two, either. No big deal...We'll get em next time!!

It's a NBD thing for me. I think that the reason is it's a full-height grind instead of saber-ground. Does it really NEED a penetrator tip? What are penetrating? Tank doors? Concrete bunkers? I've never seen the point (HA!) of the penetrator tip other than aesthetics.

I just received mine as well. No penetrator tip. I do like the knife, overall, it's stout, sharp, pretty much no frills and a really handy size. I was concerned it'd be absurdly chunky/bulky, but it's not at all. Nice flat grind. The sanding at the top sides of the grip is a bit rough. I do like the way the grip fits my mediumish hand. The laser etched logo is excellent. The blade spine is a bit above the grip, but not much. I expect that with a rubber handle as they're a bit crude. Overall I'm pleased. The concept works–a very rugged handy utilitarian knife with excellent materials.
But, the knife was described with the penetrator tip grind, so really ought to include it. It'd be a little cooler if it had it. It would add just a bit to it's versatility. Scrapyard ought to offer to straighten that out for them that wants it IMHO.
I am glad I bought it!

I have voiced my dissapointment on the scrapforum as it was not just the lack of penetrator tip. There is a large space between the back of the blade and the handle, and I am not the only one to have this happen. I might send it back, I have not decided yet. This was going to be a user so I might just deal with it.

I know I'm not Barrabas, but dan did make an appearance and all will be fixed with the little space in the handle. What am I saying?! Of course it all was taken care of with a busse family company.
As for the penetrator tip, don't think it was on the le

The penetrator tip is mentioned on the scpyardknives.com sight now where the le is described. I believe it was on the shopscrapyard sight as well, but the knife's gone now and so I can't be absolutely sure. The photo, however, does not seem to show the tip ground on top. A picture beats a thousand words?
