Dune Crysknife

Well, since Frank Herbert used the Bedouin society as a model in part for the Fremen, a Shibriya would be a good choice.

Awesome thread. Currently reading Dune right now. I always imagined its profile being similar to the knife that Leon uses in Resident Evil 4, but the colors and accents would be different. Something about the blade shape looks alien and ‘wormlike’ enough if that makes sense.

Since the Crysknife is made from a tooth, I imagine something like these-

I like the ones in the 1984 David Lynch movie.

I read the book back in the early eighties. Never read the sequels because I don't want them to taint my feelings about the original. Sequels rarely measure up to the originals, and can actually taint the original in my opinion.

As I recall, the Crysknife was known to suffer from brittleness and breakage. And there were two versions, one version had to be kept near a living body to prevent disintegration, and the other underwent some kind of treatment so they could be stored without disintegrating.

"May thy blade chip and shatter"

The ones in the Lynch movie were actually somewhat close to how I imagined them when reading the book. Lately, I’ve been revisiting quite a bit of SF that I haven’t read since I was a pre-teen/teenager. Funny that this thread should come up right as I’m about to start Dune again.;)

A good many of us are rereading the book in preparation for the upcoming release. The anticipation is a nice experience on its own!

Honestly, the sequels were quite great imho. Yes they go much further down the rabbit hole, but you should give them a read:)
