3 3/8 closed, stag handle 3 blade Fight'n Rooster, or 3 3/4 closed, bone handle 5 blade Moore Maker 5503. The FR is fancier, but the MM is also too cool. What to do?

No, I'm not getting both.:grumpy:

I've looked at both, and I'd go FR. Can't give you a good reason other than 5 is too many blades. And stag rules.

I always use, and carry what I buy (at least for a while). Do you? 3 blade sounds pocket freindly! I will hold my vote till I see pictures!

Amen!

To me 5 blades is something to be admired if done correctly, but too much to carry and use. If you want it to look at, the 5 blade would be pretty interesting, but if you want it to use, go with 3.
And, stag does rule.

I have the 5 blade Mooremaker sowbelly in my pocket right now..... it is a bit heavy but it agrees with me! The difference between the two..... three back springs vs. two..... five blades vs. three...... yellow cattle shin bone vs. stag..... the FR is decidedly better looking with the stag. I don't own any FR knives, but I do own three MM's and have been happy with all three..... although I am still trying to break in the back spring on the clip point blade on my equal-end trapper (nail breaker...big time). The 1095 that MM uses holds a good edge and takes a nice dark patina fairly quickly. Can't speak for the FR though. As far as having 5 blades to use..... I could do without the small clip point, but I use the hell out of the punch. I've been looking at three blade cattle knives that have the main clip/spear point blade, punch, and either a spey or sheepsfoot..... would prefer the sheepsfoot as I find it more useful than the spey blade.

aw hell...... just get both!:D

Hope this helps....

Jason

P.S. I only own 7slippies... 2 SAKs, 1 S&M, 2 Case, and 2MMs...... third MM is a fixed blade. SAKs ride in the truck for beater knives;) S&M, Case, and Mooremakers get the pocket time!

The Schatt & Morgan Sowbellies are worth looking at. The 2008 version in "brown berry wormgroove" is beautiful- one of my favorite knives. I dunno about a 5 bladed model- kinda seems like too much to me.

I second that, and I don't know for sure since I do occasionally carry a cattle king stockman but I would think that 5 blade would be to heavy for me.

My carry limit is three blades, ie: U.S. Schrade 8OT & similar, only two springs wide. The Buck 301 at three springs wide is about my limit.

I had a six-blade Congress, that lives in the garage somewhere; I haven't used it in . . . years? Nice knife, too big & heavy for carry. IIRC, three springs wide, but heavy.

I recently bought a six-blade Rough Rider Rifleman-series Stockman. Great deal for less than $20., but it will probably never get carried. It's four springs wide, and would need a sheath for regular carry.

Moore Makers are good knives, but five blades is too many, IMHO.

thx - cpr

The 5th blade is a punch/awl, which is an advantage.
So it is a four bladed sowbelly with a punch

The main clip looks longer, so it looks like it it on its own spring.
You will need a belt pouch for that weight.
Would you use the four blades?

"Three shall be the number to which thou shalt count, and the number of the count shall be three. Thou shalt not count to four, nor two, unless thou then proceed'st to three. Five is right out."

The current Schatt & Morgan series includes a four-blade sowbelly.

That may be a good compromise since (I assume) that it would have two backsprings.

4 blades is clearly the limit that is intended by nature. Anything with more is a monster or worse. ha ha. Enjoy was you get...that's what matters.

I would go with the three blades. 5 is too thick to carry comfortably. Fightiun Roosters are'nt made anymore so they're more collectible. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about fightin roosters being out of production.

I went with the real expert opinion and let my gf choose :D I preferred the more stylish look of the FR anyway (both blade shape and stag), plus your advice on weight and the boss' final say pulled it all together.
