Hi All

I bought one of Andys blade show camp knives (the white handled one) with the full intention of using it as a camp knife. But the darn thing is so nice looking I am afraid to use it. Does anyone know how well the 3D spalting finish holds up to something like battoning kindling?

Thanks.

I also bought one of Andy's Blade knives, and I've pretty put it through just about everything. I haven't noticed any rub whatsoever on the spalting. Were heading back to the river this weekend and I plan on putting it through even more. I wouldn't have a worry about the spalting.

It will scratch, and/or sand off, even accidental stropping of the etch will start removing the black. This is an early version of the spalting on this EDC, since then it has gotten a bit lighter, from stropping.
I personally expect it to wear, adds to it's character....and maybe his newer process is deeper, more durable?

Spalted steel is made of steel, and is very durable. It will sand off, or it is possible to sand through it, but it isn't easy. The newer finish is indeed deeper. So I'd say go for it. My knives are made to be used.

IMO that is one of the good things about the spalting. When you beat on it you just add more character. The one I have seems very deep and I don't see how I could rub it off unless I took it to a grinder.

In short, USE IT!!!

I live that Finish, I never bought one because of fear of rubbing it off in use, I think I will be getting one soon, if I could ever find one.
