I'm trying to find a good folder that has a sturdy build, keeps an edge and can take alot of abuse. Blade can't be longer than 4" due to state regulations. I've had my eye on a couple ZT models as well as a few Spyderco. What're your thoughts? Favorite blades? Least favorite? Also pretty interested in/ignorant about DPx Gear, if anyone has any experience with those. Thanks everyone!

Benchmade 810 Contego. Tough, great steel (M4), and well under $200. Right at 4" long.
I have avoided it because 4" is too long for the laws in my state, unfortunately. Different cities are either 3" or 3.5".

Oh wow. That may have just ended my search haha. Also been dying to try out M4 or any tool steel really.

I love my DPX hest 2.0. Some savvy ebaying can net you one for about 150. Also numerous Emersons, such as the Commander, CQC-8, and CQC-7.

You can get a Custom Gripitlian made from Benchmade with D2 or S30V in that price range.

You can pick scale colors, hardware color, ect. Even laser engrave it.

I was using Ontario RAT 1. Then recently got a mini Grip. Comparing two, I can say that the mini Grip as not as tough as RAT 1. Although mini Grip is scary sharp. But it won't be a substitute for hard use folder, or even a fixed blade. Just my two cents, I am also looking for more up-scale hard use folder and miss my BK-11.

Hey FettWillKill. Awesome username and avatar. I have a DPX HEST 2.0 that I've carried off and on for about a year. It's a GREAT knife. It's really tough and can take a beating. It's very well made and incredibly smooth in blade deployment. The lock was a bit sticky at first but it broke in nicely. It came ridiculously sharp out of the box (cut myself within the first five minutes of un-boxing it being careless, d'oh!) I really like the way it carries too. The deep pocket clip is great. Disappears into the pocket. Everyone so far has suggested great options but I thought I'd give you a bit of good info on the HEST.
