Hey guys, first post here.

I'm looking at duracoating a few knives, but don't have access to a sandblaster. The Duracoat website says to use 600 grit sandpaper, and the Shake N Spray kit comes with a maroon Scotch-Brite pad. Which should I use? I've read about people going all the way down to 220 grit as well. Will such a coarse sanding hurt the blade? Also, would I use anything different to prep the G10?

Here are the knives:

Spydero Persistence
Spyderco Resilience
Kershaw Leek
CRKT Hammond Cruiser (2)

I would use some 320 to 400 wet/dry paper and lightly scuff up the surfaces, making an "x" or a crossing pattern making it satin. This will give the metal some "tooth" so the duracoat can better adhere to the surface. Be careful not to go very deep at all, Duracoat goes on very thin by design and any deep scratches may require multiple coats to be filled up and give you a nice smooth finish.

I haven't sprayed G10 or micarta but I would guess they should be porous enough not to have to do anything more than a light scuff with scotch bright.
Good luck and post some pics when your are done..

Degrease, sand, then degrease again with a residue free cleaner like brake cleaner or something.
