DuraCoat vs Gun Kote

I have used DuraCoat on a rifle and on a motorcycle frame but never a knife. The wear on a knife is different than either of the above. So I am wondering has anyone ever used either on a knife and if so how did it work? I am considering re painting a Kershaw Outcast. Thank you in advance for any input or insight you can share

Never painted a knife before, but I have experience with finishing guns. Don't bother with the DuraCoat, and its extended curing time. Use Gunkote, bake it, and be done with it.

308sniper (http://uparmored.tripod.com) uses Duracoat on knives and says it's pretty tough. If you're doing it yourself and have a local paint store that will mix it, look for Polane T, it's Duracoat without the branding and a whole lot cheaper.

I don't know the temps you need with Gunkote, but knife+oven=bad if it needs high temps.

Temp to bake is less than 250. You can bake it longer at lower temps to suit your needs. It needs to be preheated to 100 degrees to apply.

Another issue is mixing. Its a pain with the duracoat (not hard though), where as the Gunkote is just a spray.

They have an air cure product as well. Its not quite as tough as the bake on, but still tough.

With the Duracoat, it takes up to 4 weeks to fully cure, and be completely solvent resistant. If you don't mind waiting to use it, duracoat is OK. You'll need a airbrush to apply it though.
