I stopped by a gun and knife show earlier today, and in amongst the usual $10 gimmick knives was what turned out to be a Cold Steel Recon Scout. The seller said he'd bought it back in the `90s when he was actively collecting, and although it was missing the box and showed the usual signs of handling on the Kraton, the blade was for all practical purposes like new. It had the "USA CARBON V" stamp on one side and Cordura sheath.
Everything appears legit when I compare my new purchase to the archived catalogs on the Cold Steel website, but some are just brochures and don't give much detail. So, during what years did Cold Steel make the Recon Scout with a Carbon V blade? Furthermore, does the stamp mean that the knife was in fact built in the USA, or just that the steel is American? I'm not very experienced with Cold Steel knives in general, so maybe this is common knowledge that I'll absorb eventually.
